1.2 billion mobile phones run Flash

One of the great news coming from the Adobe MAX 2009 conference is the number of devices running Flash which reached 1.2 billions !!!

So it’s important to understand that the market is much more complex! It’s important also to understand that smartphone market is about 15% of the global mobile phone market.

  1. Hi mate,
I believe it is also important to clarify that:

    1) 1.2 Billions of Flash equipped phones have shipped since 2003, so the vast majority is no longer in use by now

    2) Of the remaining ones, not all of them runs the latest version, the FlashLite market is quite fragmented and with the announced FlashLite 4 and Flash Player 10.1 (only on browser not standalone) the things will only get worse

A figure we still can’t get out from Adobe is how many of those Flash equipped phones are actually running Flash content at all? Last time I have checked OVi Store (what a silly name….) from Nokia, it listed about 36 (….) applications made in Flash, so it does’t look like Flash developers are flocking to mobile at all.

    Ciao Emanule,

Flash equipped phones are actually running Flash content at all? That’s a number that no one knows!

  3. Agree… but that’s the only real way of gauging the success of platform. How many Flash applications for mobile have actually been developed and how many have been sold/downloaded?

Simply keep stating all the time how many runtimes haven been shipped doesn’t seems to cut any new love
