Webminar from Forum Nokia summary: DRM, OVI Store and more..

Just got off the Webminar from Forum Nokia and here is a short summury:

  • Seems that the OVI Store will take care of OMA DRM protection for your Flash Lite content. I understand for S40 ,pretty easy to apply OMA DRM to nfl packages, but for S60? Well I am working on a solution!!
  • Flash Lite content on S60 for OVI Store must be packaged into sis and Symbian Signed, which means you need to spend some money for the process ($200 for the Certificate + $20/application signing)
  • Flash Lite content on S40 for OVI Store must be packaged into .nfl, free

This differences are a bit annoying but they made a valid point since for S60 5th edition, Flash Lite has the Platform Services extentions and content have access to sensitive data.

In any case here are some good news:

  • NFL packaging or some sort of similar packaging will be supported (they seems to be working on) in the future after the OVI Store launch. No much details.
  • Nokia is working on a OTA update of the Flash Lite player, it’s in the road map. No infos when/how. Seems a cool news. No much details.

Now the other news:

  • OVI Store will NOT support Flash Lite content with the Adobe Distributable Flash Lite Player solution. Comment here was about integration and user experience issues. Plus it does not fit into the OVI Store T&C.

For the OVI Store there will be 42 S50 and 33 S40 supported at launch.

By the way, they used as OMA DRM reference my article and just found out that the Forum Nokia Flash Lite Library has a link to my blog for reference, that’s cool  !!!
