Forum Nokia and Adobe working closely to support Flash developers targeting mobile opportunities

Adobe and Nokia are collaborating more closely: “Nokia has announced the creation of Forum Nokia PRO: Flash Zone, a new support program made possible by the collaboration of Nokia and Adobe, intended for Forum Nokia PRO companies who want to create Macromedia Flash® applications for devices deployed by wireless operators worldwide. ”

Interesting to know that some of the advantages to be a member of the Nokia PRO Forum (fee based) is availability of the Flash Lite player for free for testing and discount on other software, in addition to have a great interaction with worldwide companies in the mobile sector. Some coverage:

  1. Great news ….. but :

The Forum Nokia PRO membership is annual and members are entitled to the benefits described in the Program Details. Activity and innovation are characteristic to Forum Nokia PRO members. Forum Nokia PRO annual membership fee is a sum equivalent to 4000 euros per company. For Finnish companies the annual fee is subject to a 22% VAT charge.

    Ciao Marco,

I know, 4000 euros are not “bruscolini” !!
I am curious of what kind of support the give and what companies are involved.
In any case they should have a promotional fee like $100 for period of time and not 4000 Euros !! It will give a boost to Flash Lite.

Anyway our free(!!!) forums, discussions and blogs will remain free!!!

  3. I love your “bruscolini” word !!!

yes, our support ad groups will remain free :)

If you pay a 4000 euro membership then the players are NOT free…
4000 for getting information you can get on google… what’s the point. Who can join this?

I feel it looks like Central, everybody is excited, it is the next “big” thing… but… but… ah yes there is NO audience. No money.
The time people replace their phones and developer can sell their games/apps it will be in two years.

Let’s face the truth, at the moment Java is much better in creating games. I don’t see Flash Lite 2 creating any 3D games.

So try to calm down from this mass euphoria, there is NO customer to buy our Flash products at the moment. The time it will come, I really hope Flash Lite 3 will be released, using AS3 so we can use the Flex Enterprise Services, and i dream to have access to the features of the phone (Camera, Microphone).

I also want to create Flash Lite 2 content for my personal use on the uncoming N91 phone.

Just my 2 cents, I don’t want to spoil your excitment though. Have fun.

    Ciao,

interesting points. I think you do not know what is the Nokia Forum PRO. This is not the web, it’s mobile world. 4000 will not give you infos that you get on google.

Also can you please leave your name and email so that we know who you are?

    Thanks
    Alessandro

Hi again, my name is Christophe, I am french guy working in Singapore.

About Forum Nokia PRO, from their website:
“Forum Nokia PRO offers exclusive access to the world’s leading mobile developers. As a member of this program, your company receives the ultimate level of:
    - Business development support, including events, co-marketing, and public relations support
    - Technical support that includes Developer Platform roadmaps, prerelease tools, training, and prototype devices”

My points as simple developer are:
Flash plugin is meant to be universal.
So Flash Lite 2 for nokia N91 will work the same at Nokia N70. We only care about the screen resolution which is provided by the specs of the phone. This information i can find it by google. So from my point of view as a Flash developer, as we do NOT have access to the hardware, why should i get the first prototypes of each phone? Except getting the excitment of being the first one to use… what else does it give me?

About the marketing, events, public relationship support, i have serious doubts about it especially if you are a small player.
Right now they need us to give them some contents otherwise as good as Flash Lite is, nobody will use it. So make people believe they will get rich thanks to them reminds me Macromedia and Central. It was supposed to be the place were developers will sell their apps and Macromedia will “just” take a 25% tax from it…

So if now 4000 euro is the ticket for entering into this new market place, what are the guaranties i will get any single cent from it? From me none. We don’t know how many people they will dedicate for this, what will be the events and so on. I don’t think that everybody listed in this pro forum can access to the various events they will provide, i am quite sure we will need to keep paying to let them “invite” us to show our produts on a mobile event. That’s why i am quite suspecious about it.

And as you said in your previous post:
“Anyway our free(!!!) forums, discussions and blogs will remain free!!!”

    So when you say:
“I think you do not know what is the Nokia Forum PRO. This is not the web, it’s mobile world. 4000 will not give you infos that you get on google.”

    I will replied:
As flash is an universal player with no hardware access, as the different screen resolutions are standartized, I can get this information months before the phone is really released to public.
There is no point of having access to all these services (prototype, marketing, Roadmaps) as i can deploy my apps and also earn money on their Preminet Client platform by right.

I may be wrong, but that’s what it makes me feel right now.

Congrats for your website by the way.

    Ciao,

    nice to meet you.
you make some good points. early adopters are always in this situation on what to do if you want to go commercial with a product.

In any case the Forum Nokia PRO lends Nokia mobile phones for testing, you have access to SDKs before others and so on. So there is a technological, business and marketing advantages to be part of it.
To be part of the Preminent Solution I think you need to be into the Forum Nokia Pro (not sure thought).
If you are a mobile company is a good investment, Nokia is leader in the Mobile phone.
One more thing: “So if now 4000 euro is the ticket for entering into this new market place, what are the guaranties i will get any single cent from it?”
In business there are no guarantee to make money!!

I agree on this: “Right now they need us to give them some contents otherwise as good as Flash Lite “.

I repeat myself, but been a early technology adopter, you have to go through this painful process and I personally think it’s fun been on the edge!

thanks for the congrats. Do you have a site? If you are interested in FL join the AMobileUG, you get infos for free!!!

  8. Forum Nokia Pro is a complete waste of money … we have been a pro member for two years and Nokia Australia doesnt even recognise the program.

You get no advantages over just developing your apps normally, yes you get SDK’s early but this is only very marginal.

They also over you “discount hardware” … their price $AU600 for N70 device but I have to pay import duty on it … I can buy it for that over the counter here in Australia.

Does it give you access to key Nokia people … No they just ignore emails.
