Flash Lite, Nokia and OVI Store a global opportunity

I wanted to share some information for the Flash Lite community which might not be clear to everyone. Flash Lite content distribution on OVI Store is now super easy and free.

OVI Store supports Flash Lite content for Nokia S60 and Nokia S40. Packaging has 2 main option based on the platform:

Also OVI Publisher is open to individual and with the new beta program Symbian Signed is free.

Flash Lite versions: there are 4 (soon 5) different version of Flash Lite supported by Nokia devices. Some developers might think this is an issue, but instead can create a nice distribution opportunity. For example if you create a Flash Lite 2.0 game (for 240×320 resolution) you can distribute it and sell it globally via OVI Store on all Nokia S60 and Nokia S40 devices that supports Flash Lite 2.0, Flash Lite 2.1, Flash Lite 3.0.

Also the opportunity for Nokia S60 5th Edition with Flash Lite 3.0 can be extended to new Nokia Symbian^3 devices such as the Nokia N8 which supports Flash Lite 4.0. So all content created for Nokia touch devices will work on the new Symbian^3 devices.

If you want to know more about Flash Lite support on Nokia devices check my other blog: www.flashlite4nokia.com which lists all Flash Lite enabled Nokia devices including firmware updates.

Thanks for the info. But do you mean i dont need certificate or ovi store fees payment ?

  2. William says:

Oh!!! good news!!! So I could finally register!
Just a side note : it’s not free, it’s 50$ for registration fee.

    Ciao,

Rajdeep, yes, as William mentioned, you just need to pay the $50 fee, which keeps spam developers out! But everything else now it’s free. Nokia will allow you to distribute your content using their Symbian Signed certificate. You just need to do packaging (unsigned) and upload the sis to OVI Publisher. They will sing it, QA and if everything is fine, publish it on OVI Store. Of course if you are distributing for S40, it’s straight forward.

It’s all explained in the links.

Hi Alessandro, do you think that Nokia have a deal with Symbian so that they don’t pay for signing? Otherwise it would still cost them money ($10 for Express signing), so I don’t see how they could offer free signing for developers.

Also, does it mean that they would sign free apps as well? (where little or no money can be made in return, but they still have to pay for signing).

    Interesting article.

    Thanks Alessandro

This confusion about Symbian Signed certificate has been bothering me longtime now. Good to know i can submit apps unsigned :)

    Ciao,

Romain, Nokia owns Symbian! The sis are signed with a Nokia certificate for Symbian Signed.
They probably consider it an investment to attract content developers and I think is a great idea.

Yes, the Symbian Signed is good for paid or free content. I already done it!

Rajdeep, just contact the OVI support and get into the beta program. They will explain everything.’
