Mobile Application Store revenue share 90%, why not?

Yes you read right, the Mobile Application Store revenue share should be 90%. Japanese OEM/Operators are the best example to follow on this and soon or later it will happen elsewhere.

But why not sooner then later? Why not Nokia or Samsung just on this and beat everyone else on competing in the Application Store revenue share for developers? In fact all the mobile application store at the moment are at 70%. Sounds like a cartel to me!

Also from a developer point of view, without apps, an application store will no longer be valuable to consumer and devices will not sell. So developers should be on pushing changes to revenue share to 90% !! Any comments?

Assuming that OEMs are breaking even with their current offering, then yes. An alternative would be to distribute your app for free in app stores, and simply fire up the browser to employ an ad funded model.

That way you can keep your content off the device – as well as keep it fresh and avoid the recuring deployment charges.

    Free always wins :-)
