They don’t mention the FlashLite availability as with J2ME they have obtained the same results, runs on more phones and is not messed up dealing with FlashLite communication. That version, is composed of a C++ shell that is supposed to keep the subscribed content up to date (as FL is unable to run on the background or in multiple instances), unfortunatel given FL instability, that mechanism never worked and was quite irrititanting. Just for your info, most of the people behind Mobizines are the same bunch of engineers behind the almost defunct FlashCast.

    Steph

  2. Hey hey, I didn’t realise it was Flash Lite enabled too, he only talked about Java, Symbian etc. I’m hopefully going to grab the people on the Adobe stand for a Flash Lite chat today, so there should be some stuff on that on Tech Digest by the evening. Hopefully.

    Hi,

we just released our S60 3rd edition version of our FREE Mobizines Reader.
    See here for more info:

And yes it is true that we use Flash-lite 1.1 on top of a native C++ app on S60 2nd and 3rd edition.

    Best regards

Once again Mobizines managed to create a difficult to use application:
    1) After initial download of the installer, it sends a SMS to a UK number (premium?) +44 7624806310 without notifying or requesting any confirmation to the user. How could you possibly get away with this and Symbian Signing?
    2) If, for any reason, user selects the wrong access point, the installation goes on forever pretending that it is downloading something, without ever notifying the user; however if the user accidentally select the “Installation Status” item, (s)he gets a quite hilarious screen that says “If this download does not complete within the next hour, please contact us”. One hour?????
    3) If installation is not successful (like in point 2) and you shut down the phone and restart it, the installation starts again on its own without asking confirmation and another SMS to the same number is sent
    4) Installation seems to get stuck for a while alternating the “Installation Status” and “Downloading Catalogue”, if the user simply move the selecting bar to “Add Magazine” the application crash saying “General: System Error”

Tested on freshly formatted Nokia N80, N73, E62 with same results

    Steph

    More on the Mobizines:

When the user tries to uninstall the application, it gets asked “Mobizines may need to connect with roaming charges: allow this?”….. why when it gets removed?

    Steph

  6. Stephan Lachance says:

    Correction:

At the very beginning effectively there is a confirmation requested to the user to allow Mobizines to send SMS, however, when the installation fails, why it keeps sending SMS to the same number?

    Steph

Incidentally – it’s not all bad news!

I’ve got the new 3rd edition client on my Vodafone N73 and it works fine!

(Having just upgraded from the Java client via that link up there ^ – thanks David)

Allesandro’s right Steph – maybe you should direct your problems at their help page!
