Looks like I got a new toy to play with, Sony Google TV.

The tv is pretty cool since it’s a LED TV and has a very clear picture. Google TV is integrated in the TV. The Google TV is pretty simple to figure out, a smartphone is much more complicated. It has some applications already installed, like Netflix, Pandora, Napstar Twitter and many others

There is not an Android Market dedicated application and you have to go through the Android Market site using Chrome. Not sure if this is because the firmware is old and maybe next update will bring the Android Market as an application.
Streaming works pretty good but it sucks a lot of bandwidth! Here is the main menu (editable) and the Settings list:

The remote control is odd! While there are the standard Android buttons, application can be navigate via one or the other joypad so it get confusing at the beginning. The right joypad is touch sensitive and you can move an arrow around. Still trying to figure out all the other buttons!

I initially purchased a Sony Google TV too. I returned it as I thought the picture quality was sub-par compared to other TVs and purchased a Google Logitech Revue instead. I prefer not having the media player tied to the TV. There’s an iPhone App for the Logitech Revue that is pretty sweet (and better than the official GoogleTV app.) I’m not sure if it works with the Sony version though as I haven’t gone back to the Sony Google TV since switching to the Logitech Revue.
I noticed at Best Buy that the Logitech Revues are usually hidden on a shelf behind the Sony Google TV display. Regardless of this, whenever I’ve asked about Google TV, the sales rep has ignored the Song Google TV display and has recommended the Revue.
Ciao James,
to me the picture quality is fine. Also waiting for the firmware update to see more features. The Logitech Revue is for another post!

Well that looks pretty good … However can you do anything else with it as well or is just for watching tv? And can you use other type of software as well or no, only the original one made by Google?
Ciao,
you can use all the android apps created for the google tv platform in addition to for example sites that use HTML5 for web apps. So streaming video, music, games and more.
