New Flash Lite blog: William Gregoire

William Gregoire has started a new blog about Flash Lite. I could not comment on the blog, but just wanted to point out something he posted here:

  • 6131, 6131 NFC, 6234 aren’t Flash Lite enable while others S40 3rd Ed FP1
don’t know why but 6131 are Flash Lite enabled for FlashLite4Nokia
  • 2680 Slide isn’t Flash Lite enabled while others S40 5th Ed FP1 are
  • 6300i is 3.0 while others than 2680 slide S40 5th Ed FP1 are 2.1
  • 6210 Navigator is 2.1 only while others S60 3rd Ed FP2 are 3.0

I agree with William that this can be confusing but need to correct something. The Nokia 6131 and 6131 NFC are Flash Lite 1.1 enabled. The way to be sure a mobile phone is Flash Lite enabled is look at the User Agent Profile (here is the 6131).
If you find the application/x-shockwave-flash MIME type, some type of Flash Lite content is supported.

The Nokia 2680 Slide is  one of those phones for emerging markets so Flash Lite is not a primary feature to have.

The Nokia 6300i, according to Forum Nokia is Flash Lite 3.0, strange since all the S40 5th Ed/FP1 are Flash Lite 2.1.

The Nokia 6210 Navigator, according to Forum Nokia is Flash Lite 2.1 which is the only S60 device with this version of the player so I am not sure and as soon as I can check the validity of the info I will update the FlashLite4Noka site.

Well, confusing but I guess these are the exceptions !! Anyway, if you find any issue on my list on FlashLite4Noka please let me know and I will correct them.

    Thanks for the comment!
I noticed these strange points running some tests on a nokia db aggregator.
So my aggregator didn’t read UAProf xml files…
I looked some of them (2680’s one if I remember) but, shame on me, not the 6131
I’ll see if I can add UAProf parsing on my app….

anyway, I’ll wait for your result on 6300i and 6210

    Ciao William,

you can use WURFL, it has the FL infos included and very simple to use.
Also if you are interested in providing FL info to WURFL we have a Yahoo Group dedicated to WURFL and FL.
